My husband and I are invited to a wedding in 2 weeks. Naturally, being the fashion queen that I am <insert sarcasm here>, I’ve been worrying about what I will wear. It’s an evening wedding, so I had hoped to wear the Jones of New York little black dress (JNY LBD) I purchased last summer. I didn’t need the dress, but it was such a good deal, I couldn’t pass it up. Plus, last summer, I was at my all time thinnest and the dress looked GOOD.
Fast forward to this summer. The tags are still on the dress as I’ve had no opportunity to wear it. And as luck would have it, I’ve put on a few pounds. I tried on the dress and yep…it’s pretty darn snug. My 43 year old stuff was just hanging, sagging and jiggling all over the place. I was depressed and started shopping for a new dress, but just didn’t like anything I saw as much as the JNY LBD hanging in my closet.
So I tried the dress on again…this time for my husband. He said “You look GOOOOOOD.” Thanks, sweetie, but I don’t think I can hold my breath and suck in my gut for the entire length of the wedding and reception.
Sigh.
Then I remembered what Fashion Sensei told me. “Focus on fit.” And she recommended that I try Spanx, a minimizer that is supposedly a woman’s best kept secret. I stopped in Nordies yesterday and purchased Spanx’s Mid-Thigh Bodysuit. It cost more than I paid for the JNY LBD, but much less than if I purchased a new dress altogether, so I went for it.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
I tried it on with the JNY LBD when I got home. A whole new me. I could not believe the transformation. Amazing. The dress fits perfectly (maybe even a bit roomy) and I look. . . well. . . pretty darn good. Seriously. Neck down? It easily knocked off 15 years of sag. You 40-something ladies know what I’m talking about.
I’ll say it again. WOW!!!!!!!!!
Why didn’t someone tell me about Spanx sooner? Have I been living under a rock or something? The stuff is amazing!
Oh and Sara Blakely, the inventor of Spanx, has a line of shapewear sold at Target for us budget minded ladies, called Assets. I’ll be checking these out pronto!
So now I’m all set for the wedding and am looking forward to the date night with my sexy husband. Hopefully, he’ll think I look sexy too.
I’m glad that you had such great success!! You will have to post a picture for us! (You can do it from the neck down if you want to hide your identity)
Have a great time at the wedding!
Spanx sounds brilliant. I don’t think we have them in Australia, but there might be a similar brand.
Have a great time at the wedding! I’m going to a wedding in about 2 weeks as well. And I’ve got myself a little black dress!
Oh, can I apologise to all the more mature minded people here for the naked butt in my avatar? Sorry guys, I don’t mean to offend.
What do you mean nobody ever told us? My mom made sure I wore a girdle when I was in high school (I’m 54) and ever since I stopped wearing one in college, she’s been urging me to get back into one. Like most of my fellow baby boomers, I resisted, until Spanx came along with a girdle that could accomplish everything a girdle is supposed to accomplish without serious discomfort. Spanx are great and I don’t leave the house without them. And my husband, I should say, is very appreciative because thanks to Spanx, I’m dressing better and dressing up more because I feel so good about how I look. Your hubby will probably appreciate the effect of Spanx as well.
Confidence is the best accessory and if this Spanks business bolsters yours, then all the better. Have a great time at the wedding.
Good to know! I’m sure you look smashing in that dress!
I’m so glad you mentioned this. I’ve seen them on late night tv but don’t really believe that stuff. So glad to hear it’s for real. I have a Target right next to me. ASSetts here I come. LOL
Joders – I think you should use that super cute school age picture of yourself for your avatar!!!
Refugee – I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!
ladybeams – Let me know how you like ASSets!
I’ve worn Assets and I think that for half the price, they’re just fine. They seem to have the same degree of control power and they are just as comfortable. A friend of mine says that they don’t hold up as well after a lot of washings but I can’t confirm that. I’ve gotten into the habit of wearing the Assets on a daily basis and the Spanx for dressier circumstances.
phew! so i finally got the proper dress. well its funny to see how women worry about the dresses so much so that its the only thing on their mind! sweet though.
I hope the wedding went well : ) We can thank the heavens for Spanx they really do cover up a lot! I have them in every color!
How did I miss this post? I love spanx but they don’t love me. They make my legs hurt for some reason and after about an hour I’m wanting to go into a public restroom and remove the damn things. I have finally found one things I can wear for a long time…comfortably. Under Armour compression shorts or leggings. Plus they wick any moisture which we all now know I have too much of. Ha!
Midlife – Yes, how did you miss this opportunity to read about underwear??? LOL on the moisture. Hoo-Hoo!

i tried spanx once! i never got out of the dressing room. I was exhausted Maybe i’ll try them again, since you ladies are having luck with them.
“It easily knocked off 15 years of sag.” That’s funny but oh, so true! Spanx really is a great product. I’ve never tried the Assets product line…I wonder if they are just as good?
