Password Plus
I love game shows. The Boy and I are hooked on them. It started out with The Boy wanting to watch TV with me and I had trouble finding shows that were appropriate for him to watch, yet would still appeal to me. I got sick of the Disney shows pretty quickly. Then we discovered The Game Show Network.
Heaven.
Currently, we’re really digging Million Dollar Password. In fact, we’re hooked. I’m pretty sure that I will buy The Boy the Million Dollar Password game for his birthday, just so I can play it with him.
Anyway, here are my top 10 favorite Game Shows, in no particular order:
Password - That includes the original Password, Password Plus, Super Password, and Million Dollar Password. Love the shows. Love them all. Even today, I still enjoy catching Allen Ludden and Betty White on the original Password replays on the Game Show Network. How fun was it last week when Betty White was on Million Dollar Password? She is still FABULOUS at the game!
Match Game - Match Game and its various iterations ran from the early 60’s through the 1990’s. I loved Match Game in the 1970’s hosted by Gene Rayburn and with regular guest stars Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly. Hilarious stuff.
Family Feud- This show has also been through several iterations. Who can forget Richard Dawson and his kissing all of the female contestants on the lips? Ewww. Still, it’s a fun show and I enjoy catching it on the Game Show Network now and then.
Lingo – Chuck Woolery is the absolute best. Enough said.
Pyramid – $10,000 Pyramid, $25,000 Pyramid, $50,000 and $100,000 Pyramid. . . they’re all great. But the ones hosted by Dick Clark are the best. Seriously, who doesn’t love Dick Clark?
Hollywood Squares – Paul Lynde with his outrageous zingers, was a hoot as the center square!
Wheel of Fortune – One of the few games this word nerd is actually good at!
Jeopardy – With the exception of “Teen Week”, I rarely know many answers to this game, but still enjoy watching on occasion. I know I could never be a contestant on this show, not only because I’m not smart enough, but mostly because I don’t have an interesting and unique tidbit to share about myself during the introduction stage of the program.
Love Connection- Chuck Woolery. Again. Enough said.
Whose Line is it Anyway? – A hysterical improvisational comedy show. True, Drew Carey does nothing for me, but Ryan Stiles and Wayne Brady cracked me up every time on this show!
What’s your favorite game show?
Great post. I love game shows, but have gotten out of the habit. I used to watch a lot when I was younger.
My grandmother, who lived to be 92 and was sharp as a tack, watched game shows and did the LA times crossword puzzle everyday. She told me her doctor said these activities would help her not go senile. And she never did.
I was a Match Game FREAK during the Gene Rayburn days, when I was but a teenager. And just barely, at that. Don’t ask me why – my best friend and I became obsessed with that game show, along with Hogan’s Hero reruns and M*A*S*H. We were weird kids.
These days the only game show we watch, and we don’t watch it with any regularity, is Jepoardy. If we could tag-team, Beloved and I would kick ass.
I’ve never been a game show person, for some reason. Maybe it’s the fact that none of them listen when I scream the answer and that really frustrates me.
I LOVE Whose Line is it Anyway!!!! Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Colin Mockery (sp?) are all A-MAZ-ING.
OMG – I love all those shows. Today’s game shows are all based on those classics.
P.S. Remeber the Gong Show? What a hoot~
Jeopardy and Millionaire. I also like that game that is done in a cab ride in NYC. Not sure of the network or the name but MHS knows how to find it. LOL
My dad & I would watch Millionaire and Jeopardy before dinner just to see which of the two of us could beat the other. So those are special memories for me.
And Whose Line? is the best improv show I’ve seen! I love Collin Mochre (sp?) esp. when they did the skit, “Hats.”
Game shows are great fun! I used to love Family Feud. I only ever get to watch Jeopardy when I’m in the US and I don’t get a lot of the answers but I have fun trying!
My other favourite is Sale of the the Century (now renamed Temptation, in Australia). I’ve been watching it since I was in my teens. Sadly it was cancelled last year due to to poor ratings (reality tv rates much better than game shows).
phhhst – I love to do crossword puzzles too, but I am terrible at them!
Jan – Yeah…I was a Match Game freak too.
MLS – I know what you mean. But sometimes THAT makes me feel really, really smart.
LiLu – Ryan, Wayne AND Collin (how could I have forgotten Collin?) are SOOOO FUNNY!!!! I even crack up at Ryan as “Herb” on Three and a Half Men!
Lisa – Who could forget the Gong show! LOL
SMB – I dont know the cabbie show. Hmmm..
Carol – “Hats” is hilarious!!!
Joders – I forgot about Sale of the Century…another fun show.
